Hariyali means greenery as it relates to the fertile soil of the rainy season and is observed in many places, on the moon day of the month of Shravan.
This year it is on Saturday, August 15th. It begins on 14 August, Friday from 06:46pm and ends on 15th August Saturday at 05:28 pm. Most of them celebrate it by performing specific rituals of which two include, performing pujans and rituals in the morning at 04:50 –05:35AM, after sunset or at noon 12:17pm - 1:08PM. Performing Pujans at any other time ( depending on availability and preference) if none of the other times are suitable The exact timings can change according to the locality, so check calendars!
Based on the legend of Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva, it is believed that Goddess Parvati performed severe penance to achieve Lord Shiva.

Hariyali Teej Puja is an easy and effective ritual. The entire information is given here-
1. After getting up early in the morning during Brahma Muhurat and taking a holy bath in river water and its neighbours, clean oneself and wear fresh white or preferably green Indian outfits.
2. Prepare, decorate the puja mandap with your family Members, put idols of Lord Shiva, and Goddess Parvati along on an elevated wooden seat or platform .
3. Take a sankalp that you are sure to observe the fast .
4. Worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati with the following puja items, gangajal, flowers, roli, sindoor, akshata (chawal), mithai ( sweets) , fruits. Solah Shringar (16 adorning components) items that consist of bangles, lipstick & sindoor, bindi etc .
5. After lighting the diwali lamp and aromatic incense-stick, offer worship and chant mantras listening to or narrating the Hariyali Teej vrat katha (story).
6. Follow this by arati, giving out of prasad, also every Hindu woman present there needs to get sindoor from the priest , then do arati (perform puja using diyas/lamps) and distribute Prasad among the guests or family members. Additionally, in a grand procession that goes throughout Rajasthan , ‘Teej Mata (consort of Shiva ) is paraded on a palanquin specially decorated, accompanied by magnificently decorated elephants, and camels dressed up in jingle bangles as they play traditional Ghoomar or other Folk Songs along with colorful flutes, clarinets, tabors and cymbals. Hariyali Teej Fasting Rules & Dos and Don'ts
Hariyali Teej fasting rules includes doing a water-less (Nirjala) fast is the traditional protocol to observe the Hariyali Teej, that symbolises one’s devotion and will power towards the long and healthy life of their husbands.
Though it’s an optionally water-less fast, a fruit and milk fast is also an alternative in accordance with one's health condition.
DO’S
1. Get Up Early: Wake early in the morning and take a purifying holy bath. Don green attires and decorate your hands with Mehendi .
2. Observe Sankalp: Before commencing the fast, perform the 'Sankalp', which indicates you make the commitment of performing the fast dedicatedly .
3. Devotional Attitude: Listen to or read the Hariyali Teej 2026 vrat katha, chant mantras dedicatedly.
4. The Hariyali Teej vrat can last either a whole day and night, up to evening arati, or some communities have custom to observe the Vrat from one sunrise to the next . So if possible keep the vow all Day, or at the minimum stay hydrated .
Avoid food products like raw grains, rice, salt ,onions, garlic, non-vegetarian substances, alcohols & intoxicant beverages. However if in ill condition or Pregnant, you can alternatively prefer eating fruits or having milk etc. Do not allow yourself to fall asleep during the vrat.
DONT's
1. Stay clear of these food products as mentioned in Do’s.
2. A young lady on prescribed treatment or an aged person should opt for a less complicated fast. Like a fruit fast or a milk fast is considered more suitable, and you would still be entitled to the merit of the fasting, provided the husband is healthy, otherwise he is ill.(Health comes before traditions).
